Route: From San Candido to Pieve di Cadore
Lenght: 90 km
Medium duration: 8 days
Difficulty: easy/medium

This long excursion, as well as the other ones, is divided into some daily stages: at rifugios and bivouacs it is possible to sleep, or in any case to have a break.

The "High Route n. 4", called "Grohmann" in honour of the Austrian mountaineer, who in the half of the XIX century first climbed some important Domites peaks, winds among the Dolomites through mule tracks and paths not very binding and in good conditions, marked by signalling. Only the stage who climbs to Rifugio Vandelli-Bivacco Còmici requires some experience.

This High Route starts in San Candido, in Pusteria and ends in Pieve di Cadore, through five paths, corresponding to the main crossings:

Rifugio Tre Scarpèri - Rifugio Locatelli - Rifugio Auronzo
Six - seven hours walk, if the starting point is San Candido. Otherwise, if you want to reach Rifugio Tre Scarpèri by car the duration will reduce to five - six hours.
From San Candido, enter the SS52 highroad to Sesto, and in about twnty minutes reach the Rifugio Tre Scarpèri (1626 m) plunged in a wonderful oasis of bushes. If you desire you can cover this stretch on foot: it will take about two hours.
Walking along Monte Mattina, in the valley of the stream San Candido, and then the Alpe delle Fosse and the Passo dell'Alpe Mattina you will arrive to Rifugio A.Locattelli - Tre Cime di Lavaredo. This second stage will take three hours.
From the rifugio it is possible to reach Rifugio Auronzo, travelling along the southern slope of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, raggiungere il Rifugio Auronzo (2330 m). From Rifugio A. Locatelli to the Auronzo one it is necessary one hour and a half walk.

Rifugio Auronzo - Rifugio Frères Fonda Savio - Rifugio Città di Carpi
The whole stretch take about six hours walk.
The stretch which leads from Rifugio Fonda Savio to Rifugio Città di Carpi (2130 m) is extremely interesting. The excursionist can choose between the eastern and the western "Equipped path Durissini" (they both take three hours and a half walk).
This stretch offers also a change for the skilled mountaineers, who, through the ferrata Ruggero Merlone-Celestino Ceria, can reach the paek of Cima Ciadìn Nord Est, in about two hours.

Rifugio Città di Carpi - Rifugio A.Vandelli
Four hours walk.
From Rifugio Citta di Carpi, along the path n. 120, past Forcella Maràia (2101 m), enjoying the landscape of Col de Varda and Misurina, you get to Misurina in about two hours walk. If you want you can reduce the duration by getting the lifts.
In the stretch which, from Misurina, leads to Rifugio Vandelli (1928 m) you can visit the interesting Vecchia Dogana (old customs): it will take two hours.

Rifugio A.Vandelli - Bivacco Còmici
Four hours walk.
This stage, through Vendelli and Minazio Parks, allows to cross the Sorapiss Valley till San Vito Valley.
Some complex stretches are made easier by the presence of fixed ropes.

Bivacco Còmici - Rifugio San Marco - Rifugio Galassi
Five - six hours walk.
This stage can be made along two different itineraries: the first one heads directly to Forcella Bassa and take about 30 min; the second one, longer and more tiring, leads to Forcella Alta and take about 4 hours to reach Rifugio San Marco.

Rifugio Galassi - Rifugio Antelao - Pieve di Cadore
Five hours walk.
A long path leads to the Antelao, where the landscape is really suggestive and is overhanged by Forcella del Ghiaccio Superiore di Antelao and Croda di San Pietro.
